A friend of mine just made me try her homemade pickles. Holy crap, they were amazing! Apparently, they take 7 days to “make” and require 4 ingredients:
- Store bought pickles: slices or spears (you can cut the spears into smaller pieces)
- Minced garlic
- Sliced jalapenos
- Drain the juice off your pickles
- Get an empty jar and layer the ingredients like this:
She said there aren’t any “standard” amounts for any of the ingredients… just wing it. If you want it sweeter, add a slightly bigger layer of sugar… hotter, more jalapenos, etc.
3. Let the jar of goodness sit for a day. On day 2, turn it upside down (make sure the lid is on tightly). Day 3, turn it back over (right side up). Keep rotating the jar for 7 days.
At the end of day 7 your pickles should be ready to devour!
Seems like a lot of work (I could stop by Costco on the way home and get a huge ready-made jar of Sweet & Spicy Pickle Chips) but this might just be the do-it-yourself challenge I’ve been looking for…
