What you see here are the three best animals in the world — and right now I miss them terribly! I think the hardest part of any trip is saying, “goodbye” to them. Bella is our Catahoula/Border Collie/Lab/??? that we rescued in 2003. She’s the smartest, sweetest, most amazing dog you’ll ever meet (true, I’m a little biased….) She’s been the love of our lives for the past 11 years and we can’t imagine life without her.
Millie is our resident “scaredy-cat”. Bella actually found her buried deep within the tall grass of a neighborhood field. She was hot, stinky, covered with fleas, and only about 3 weeks old. We don’t know what happened to her feline mother, but Bella was quick to step in and take over as primary caregiver. They are now inseparable.
Zeke showed up on our doorstep the day after we had to put our first cat, Rumba, “to sleep”. We were sure he must have belonged to someone and put fliers up around the neighborhood… no one claimed him and he continued to hang around. We decided that Rumba must have seen him searching for a home and urged him to come over to our house — kind of killing two birds with one stone… he needed a home and we needed him to help relieve some of our grief and sadness. It truly was a match made in kitty heaven and to this day he remains our soulful, kind “man cat”.
Call us “crazy animal lovers”… we are. I love my animals dearly and I DO think of them as our kids.
I miss you guys!!! Be good while we’re gone!!!
We’re counting the days until we’re all back together!
